Artist Statement
My work reflects my ever growing reverence for the delicate relationships between all forms of life. The surfaces, sense of balance, symmetry, and composition in my work draws upon growth patterns, cycles and transitions in nature that perpetuate the evolution of our world and ourselves. Seed pods, flowers, fruit, insects, crustaceans, human archetypal symbols, and body systems have all informed my work. I reference elements in the natural world, rearrange and abstract them in the hopes of creating a new context for interaction and contemplation. About MeJessica Benzaquen was born in Palm Springs California and raised in Albuquerque New Mexico. She received her BFA from the California College of the Arts (formerly known as the California College of Arts and Crafts) in 2006, in Oakland, with an emphasis in jewelry and metal arts. She has spent the last two years traveling through the United States, Mexico, Peru and India. These travels have been for both pleasure and assistant teaching opportunities as well as furthering her education in the field of metal arts. Here are some links to fellow artists and galleries. |
